Managing a team you cannot see

Managing a field team means accepting you cannot observe the work and choosing measures that survive that. Outcome and activity data reported by the rep works when the rep has a reason to keep it accurate. Surveillance-style tracking produces compliance behaviour and worse data, because reps optimise for whatever is being watched.

You are managing a reported reality

Everything you know about the day comes through the rep. That makes their incentive to report accurately the single most important variable in your whole reporting stack.

Why surveillance backfires

Track hours and you get hours. Track doors and you get shallow knocks. Reps optimise for the measure, and the more it feels like monitoring the more the data drifts from reality.

This is also why company-issued field apps end up with stale pins by Friday: nobody fills in a tool that exists to check up on them.

What produces accurate data

Reps who keep records because the records are useful to them. That is an adoption argument rather than a monitoring one, and it is the reason a rep-owned record produces better data than a company-owned one.

Common questions

How do I know reps are actually working?
Outcome patterns over time are more reliable than location tracking, which mostly produces the appearance of work.
Should I use GPS tracking?
It reliably damages trust and data quality. Reps optimise for whatever is measured, and being watched is a measure.
Does KnockMode have manager views?
No. Manager dashboards and team reporting are unbuilt.
