Dispositions, and why they are the whole record

A disposition is what happened at a door: sold, not home, callback, appointment, not interested, do not contact. Every number you later use is built from these, which makes the tap you make at the door the highest-leverage second in the job. Short lists get used accurately; long ones get guessed at.

They are the raw material for everything

Contact rate, close rate, callback lists, time-of-day patterns and your career record are all derived from dispositions. Nothing downstream can be more accurate than the tap that produced it.

Short lists beat complete ones

Every extra option is a decision made standing on a driveway in the sun. Past a handful, reps stop choosing carefully and start defaulting, and a defaulted disposition is worse than a missing one because it looks like data.

KnockMode ships six, and that is a deliberate ceiling rather than an unfinished list.

The two that get abused

Not home gets used for "nobody useful answered", and callback gets used for anything that was not an outright refusal. Both feel harmless and both corrupt the numbers that depend on them, one by inflating your contact rate and the other by filling your list with doors that never earned a return.

Common questions

How many dispositions should there be?
Few enough to choose accurately while standing at a door. KnockMode uses six, and the limit is deliberate.
What if a door does not fit any of them?
Pick the closest and stay consistent. Consistency matters more than precision, because the numbers are comparisons over time.
Can I change a disposition later?
Yes, and the earlier one stays in the door history. The record of an address is every conversation that happened there, not just the latest state.
