Building a track record that travels

A track record that travels is one you recorded yourself, measured consistently, and can still reach after you leave. Knock counts, contact rate, close rate and tenure are the useful items. Consistency of definition matters more than precision, because the value is in comparing periods rather than in any single figure.

Why the company version does not travel

It lives in their system and your access ends with your employment. Reps discover this at exactly the moment they need the numbers, which is during the next negotiation.

What makes a claim credible

A number with a defined denominator and a time period attached. "Thirty per cent close rate" is unverifiable. "Thirty per cent of conversations across last season, measured weekly" is a claim somebody can interrogate, which is what makes it believable.

Consistency over precision

Whatever you decide counts as a contact, apply it every time. A record measured inconsistently is not a record; it is a set of numbers that cannot be compared to each other.

Common questions

What should I track for my own record?
Doors, contacts, contact rate, close rate against contacts, and tenure. Measured the same way every week.
Will a new employer believe my numbers?
More readily if they come with a definition and a period. An unqualified percentage is not verifiable and is treated as such.
Does KnockMode keep this if I leave a company?
Yes. Your knock count, close rate, streaks and tenure sit on your account rather than the employer's workspace.
