Backdooring, and why it kills teams
Backdooring is knocking a home assigned to another rep. It is the fastest way to lose a team, because the rep who was backdoored stops trusting the assignment and starts protecting their streets instead of working them. Prevention is enforcement rather than etiquette: a boundary that is only a request will eventually be crossed.
Why it is disproportionately damaging
The direct loss is one sale. The indirect loss is a rep who now believes the rules do not hold, and behaves accordingly for the rest of the season. That behaviour spreads, because a rep who is protecting turf is visibly not working it.
Most of it is not malicious
A meaningful share is genuine confusion about where a boundary sits, which is the predictable outcome of boundaries that live in memory. Treating every instance as a character problem misses the cause and does not fix it.
What actually prevents it
A shared, current, enforced assignment. Enforced rather than requested, because a request is a norm and norms erode under commission pressure.
KnockMode cannot do this today. One rep per street, enforced, is a team feature and the team layer is unbuilt. Saying otherwise on a page that ranks for backdooring would be the exact thing this site is built not to do.
Common questions
- What does backdooring mean?
- Knocking a house assigned to another rep, whether deliberately or through confusion about where the boundary is.
- How do you stop backdooring?
- Enforce the assignment rather than requesting it, and make the current boundary visible in the field. A norm is not enough under commission pressure.
- Does KnockMode prevent backdooring?
- No. One rep per street is a team feature and it is unbuilt. If this is your problem today, we cannot solve it yet.
